Charity Week Presentation
Two
of Carmarthen's stroke physiotherapists visited the club this week for
our Charity Week presentation. Accepting a cheque for £519, Gary Morris
and June Morris expressed their gratitude at the club's support over
the last three years. Gary added that this time, the donation "will be used to aid the work that is conducted by the stroke physiotherapists in the community," where stroke patients continue their treatment at home.
Speaking on behalf of the club, Nia explained to everyone that "Carmarthenshire Karate had yet another very successful charity week this year – an event where we donate all training fees collected during one week of classes to a very good cause. For the last two years, we have supported the Physiotherapy Department at West Wales General Hospital, and are delighted to be continuing this support once again."
"Last year, we were pleased to hear that our donation was used to purchase vital physiotherapy equipment for stroke patients on the stroke rehabilitation unit in Carmarthen. We understand that stroke services remain to be developing in Hywel Dda NHS Trust, especially in the Carmarthenshire area. We would like to see this donation be put towards stroke patients again, but we leave its specific use to your discretion, whether you decide to use it for equipment in the hospital, or for the community, where physiotherapists follow up patients after they have been discharged from hospital."
Continuing, she acknowledged that "in one way or another, the majority of us will be affected by stroke in our lifetime. The fantastic work and dedication of Physiotherapy Departments all over Wales are widely recognised, but is limited by current financial pressures. Please let us help you somewhat with this small donation of £519 from our charity week. Please let us know if there is anything more we can do to help in the continuing development of this remarkable service, and as we have expressed before it is our intention to continue supporting the Physiotherapy Department in the future."
